Partner & Collaborative Law Mediator

Andrew J. Lawson was born in Scotland and as an infant immigrated to Canada with his family by ocean liner to Montreal. Growing up in Ontario with three brothers, he was taught to value hard work, setting goals and involvement in the broader community.

Andrew obtained a Bachelor of Religious Studies at Briercrest College & Seminary and Bachelor of Education degree with Distinction and Bachelor of Laws Degree at the University of Alberta.

Prior to serving the legal needs of Sturgeon County with Putnam & Lawson, Andrew’s work experience included pastoring a northern Saskatchewan church and teaching a variety of class levels with Parkland County, Edmonton Public Schools and adult education in the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Center.

Andrew has over 25 years of experience as a lawyer, having obtained a Bachelor of Law degree at the University of Alberta followed by a period of articling and practice in a large Edmonton firm. Following that Andrew joined Thomas Walter in 1992 and in 1996, a partnership was formed with Gordon Putnam. Andrew’s broad practice has involved appearances at all levels of Alberta courts. His commitment to collaborative resolution of conflicts resulted in charter membership of the Edmonton Collaborative Family Law Professionals. Andrew’s main areas of practice are personal injury, matrimonial, civil litigation, and real estate, as well as wills and estates.

Andrew is the proud father of four young adult children, each successfully pursuing a different focus of interest and occupation. He enjoys challenging outdoor pursuits, including cycling across Europe and the Spanish Pyrenees Mountains, Guatemala, paddling the Yukon River, running a variety of races including the Mount Robson marathon, New York City marathon, Chicago marathon, Berlin marathon and across the Grand Canyon, and in Kenya. He enjoys close family connections, travel, motorcycling, classic cars, gardening, running, spiritual life and the arts.

Andrew has been involved with many boards and committees within the church and community.
